Mino school fuchigashira (縁頭) with floral motif including arabesque vines or karakusa (唐草), cloves or chōji (丁子), and chrysanthemums or kiku (菊). The base metal is shakudō (赤銅), while the edges and centers of the flowers are gilded with gold. The shitodome (鵐目) of the kashira are also gold gilded. The carving is well executed in characteristic Mino school fashion, with deep, vertical walls, and slightly textured plate. This style of carving is named Mino-bori (美濃彫).
This fuchi-kashira set matched with the tsuba illustrated here, would be a nice combination for mounting on a koshirae.
